Elements and Performance Criteria
- Prepare to mix and apply COB two-pack refinishing materials to vehicle body components
- Job requirements are determined from workplace instructions
- Vehicle paint specifications, technical data sheets (TDS) and paint safety data sheets (SDS) are accessed and interpreted
- Refinishing materials are selected and inspected for quality
- Hazards associated with the work are identified and risks are managed
- Refinishing tools and equipment, including personal protective equipment (PPE), are selected and checked for serviceability
- Work is planned to identify mixing and application methods for COB two-pack materials, minimise waste, prevent damage to vehicle, and use time efficiently
- Mix COB two-pack refinishing materials
- COB two-pack refinishing materials are calculated according to paint manufacturer specifications, formulas and codes
- Codes and information relevant to job requirement are recorded
- Materials are mixed according to workplace procedures and safety and environmental requirements, and without causing damage to components or systems
- Apply COB two-pack refinishing materials
- Rectify paint faults
- Paint faults are identified according to industry and workplace procedures
- Rectification procedures are selected to suit fault or damage type
- Materials to rectify paintwork are determined from paint manufacturer information
- Paint surface faults are rectified using compounds, polishes and glazes to blend rectified areas with existing paintwork
- Complete work processes
- Final inspection is made to ensure work meets workplace expectations and component is presented ready for use
- Work area is cleaned, waste and non-recyclable materials are disposed of, and recyclable material is collected and stored
- Tools and equipment are checked, reported if faulty, and stored according to workplace procedures
- Workplace documentation is processed according to workplace procedures
